Benchmark Aspen Welcome to the 2025 Tax Season!

A Note from Mike

I and my team look forward to working with you again this year. Two years ago, we had a successful launch of the highly secure TaxDome client portal. Most of you should be well acquainted with it by now, have your password set, and know how to login. This year we strongly encourage you to upload your documents electronically through the TaxDome client portal as it is the safest and most secure option available today. TaxDome also has a phone app for easy accessibility, and you can take pictures of your documents and upload them if scanning is not an easy option for you.

Thank you for your business, referrals, and continued support over the years. Here’s to a great 2026!

Upload Your Tax Documents

If you have forgotten your TaxDome password or need to activate your client portal, please contact Linda at our office at 847-271-1040 or email her at office@benchmarkaspen.com.

Upon request, you may still utilize our prepaid USPS Priority Mail envelope service although mailing tax documents is not as secure these days as in years past. For those of you that want an in-person appointment we recommend you submit your documents in advance whenever possible. This allows ample time to make sure we have everything needed and can prepare a return draft for your review and discussion.

Considering an IRS Payment Plan

A payment plan is an agreement with the IRS to pay the taxes you owe within an extended timeframe. You should request a payment plan if you believe you will be able to pay your taxes in full within the extended time frame. The IRS now offers Simple payment plans for individuals and businesses. If you qualify for a short-term payment plan you will not be liable for a user fee. Not paying your taxes when they are due may cause the filing of a Notice of Federal Tax Lien and/or an IRS levy action. See Publication 594, The IRS Collection Process PDF.

What happens when I request a payment plan?

When you request a payment plan (installment agreement), with certain exceptions, the IRS is generally prohibited from levying and the IRS’s time to collect is suspended or prolonged while an Installment Agreement (IA) is pending. An IA request is often pending until it can be reviewed, and an IA is established, or the request is withdrawn or rejected. If the requested IA is rejected, the running of the collection period is suspended for 30 days. Similarly, if you default on your IA payments and the IRS proposes to terminate the IA, the running of the collection period is suspended for 30 days. Last, if you exercise your right to appeal either an IA rejection or termination, the running of collection period is suspended by the time the appeal is pending to the date the appealed decision becomes final. Refer to Statutes of Limitations for Assessing, Collecting and Refunding Tax and Tax Topic No. 202 – Tax Payment Options.

What are payment plan costs and fees? (updated March 3, 2026)

If the IRS approves your payment plan (installment agreement), one of the following setup fees will be charged to cover the cost of providing the payment plan (installment agreement). See Long-term payment plan below for payment options.

Apply online with the IRS through your online account or apply by phone.
